Who Can Use the CSLab Wireless?
In order to use the CSLab wireless network, you must be a member or a sponsored guest of the Department of Computer Science.
If you are a guest, we recommend consulting with your Point of Contact (PoC) for additional help. If you have a CDF account, please consult the CDF support pages. If you have a CSLab account or are a guest of the department, please continue reading.
How to use the CSLab Wireless: overview
In order to use the CSLab wifi, you will need to first configure your wireless device with the CSLab WEP key. Once you have done this, you will then need to register your device (using your CSLab or a POC's credentials) at wifi-reg.cs.toronto.edu. At this point you will be able to access remote services.
If you also wish to access local CSLab services, you will need to use either the CSLab VPN or the CSLab Authenticating Gateway system.
What is the CSLab WEP key?
The CSLab WEP key is available here but please note you will need your CSLab or POC's credentials to access the site: WEP key or access the WEP key using your CDF credentials.
How do I register my device?
After you have configured your device to use the CSLab WEP key, please navigate to wifi-reg.cs.toronto.edu and register it. You will be prompted for your CSLab or a POC's credentials.
Once you have registered your device, you will have connectivity to the outside world.
If you have more than one device, you will need to register each one separately.
CSLab VPN or Authpf
In order to access CSLab machines you must either use the CSLab VPN (preferred solution) or the CSLab Authenticating Gateway system. Please see the following links for instructions on how to use authpf:
Where is Wireless Available?
Wireless is available in pretty much every building commonly used by DCS. This includes the second and third floors of Pratt, the second, third and fourth floors of Sanford Fleming, and the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and eighth floors of Bahen. In short we have endeavoured to make sure that wireless is pretty much available wherever members of the department have a tendency to be located, including a growing number of the classrooms in the Bahen building.
Which Wireless modes does CSLab Use?
The main CSLab Wireless network uses 802.11b/g. However, 802.11a is available in the Bahen room BA3200. Please note that in order to make a connection to 802.11a you have to use the correct SSID.
For 802.11a the SSID is: cslaba
For 802.11b/g, the main wifi, the SSID is: cslab
Please note that the SSIDs are case sensitive! This is covered in more detail in the section below.
