DUO Enabled Webmail

The department has made available a new webmail system, based on Afterlogic WebMail Pro.

The new webmail is available at DCS Webmail.
It has a more modern interface, additional features, and improved mobile support over the outgoing version.

This webmail system supports DUO MFA (Multi Factor Authentication). This protects your email account because it means that even if your password were known to an attacker, they could not access your webmail without peforming a DUO authentication. DUO has been broadly adopted by the university as the official MFA solution of choice.

You can find out more regarding the university's implementation of DUO MFA, including how to enrol if needed, at Multi-factor authentication (UTORMFA).

DUO MFA is enabled for all CSLab users for whom we know their associated UTORid. If we do not know your UTORid, or you do not have one, your authentication will be solely password based. You should contact your PoC to update CSLab with your UTORid if DUO MFA is not enabled for you.

MFA is not required when on university networks. The DUO prompt will flash, but you will automatically pass the DUO authentication without any action on your part. This is also true if using one of the department's VPN servers for access to internal networks.

Webmail Configuration

If you keep your mail folders in a specific subfolder, you can set the name of that folder in Settings -> Email Accounts -> Imap prefix. You may find that before you set this prefix, webmail will be unable to display your list of mailboxes and may even report an error, depending on how many files it scans in your homedir. If you have trouble with finding mailboxes or are presented with any error messages when initially setting up your prefix, please email your POC with details, and we will help you.

Mail folder subscription is done through the Manage Folders tab.

Note that addressbook contents will not automatically be populated from old webmail. If you wish to port over your contact addresses, old webmail has the ability to export your addressbook to a .csv format file, and new webmail has the option of importing such a file, although you may need to edit the format.

Migration Timeline

We will be running both the old and new webmail systems in parallel for a period of time, to facilitate migration and adoption of the new webmail. Old webmail will not be maintained long-term, however, as the security benefits of MFA are significant for a web-based email system.

At this time, we expect to disable old webmail once testing is finished.
