CSlab Administered Servers
The most commonly used servers that we provide to the department are 'apps' (applications) and 'comps' (compute-intensive) servers. What's the difference? Here is a comparison.More specifics on:
Resource Use Policy
Please consult our guidelines for sharing CSLab computing resources.
Laptops and Self Administered Machines
Guidelines for Laptops and other self administered machines (using Windows, Linux or Mac) including backups for data loss prevention.
Scanners
Most of the department's photocopiers will scan pages into PDF format which the photocopier will then email as an attachment to an email address entered on the copier's front panel.
Computer Moves
Although your Point of Contact (PoC) will move computers, desk moves must be co-ordinated through the Graduate Office. Once a move has been finalized, they will pass the required computer move request on to your Point of Contact (PoC).
Computer Repair and Replacement
Please contact your Point of Contact (PoC), if you need help regarding computer repair and replacement.
Networking
CSLab is responsible for almost all networking in the Computer Science department. There are some exceptions (DGP, Syslab) but for the most part if you have a wiring request, like a laptop wire, or have had a cable failure or something of that nature, you should contact your Point of Contact (PoC) with details. Please note that in some cases we are limited by the connectivity to a particular location - i.e. if there is only one drop in an office, we cannot put more than two different networks into that office. We are unable to alter the building wiring, including the floor boxes in the Bahen building.
Hardware Purchases
You should contact your Point of Contact (PoC) with any hardware purchase requests, or simply to ask advice. We deal with many suppliers and have extensive experience with a huge number of brands of hardware, and your Point of Contact (PoC) may be able to recommend something that will address your needs.
